Worship and Study Opportunities

Sunday School: First Presbyterian Church offers a variety of Christian education classes for children, youth and adults. Sunday school opening is at 9:15 a.m., in the Sanctuary.

Sunday Morning Worship: Our Worship Service employs an appropriate blend of traditional hymns and short choruses. Our service is structured around the Word of God, and the hymns, the prayers and the sermon are meant to interpret faithfully God’s will as revealed in Scripture. Service time is 10:30 a.m.

Children’s Sermon: During morning worship, we have a special Children’s Message.

All the children are invited to the front of the church to listen to a special sermon. It is led by  Dr. Robert Rooks or another church member and ends with a prayer. After the message, the children can return to sit with their parents or go to the toddler room to play.

Communion: On the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, or Communion. You do not have to be a member of our church to participate in the sacrament, as we invite all Christians to celebrate communion with us. Baptized children of believing parents are welcome to partake if the parents deem it appropriate.

LOGOS Program: The LOGOS program is a ministry to children, ages 3-12, that combines four areas of learning and fun in order for children to grow in faith and love. Through fellowship, Bible study, worship skills, and recreation, we encourage and educate our children in the ways of Jesus Christ. Adults play a vital part in the LOGOS program as table parents, teachers, helpers, cooks, table decorators and music leaders. We ask parents of each child to participate at least once with some aspect of the program. LOGOS is open to all children ages 3-12. The cost is $30 per child per semester (not to exceed $60 per family). Scholarships are available. There are two semesters: Fall (Sept.-Nov.) and Spring (Jan.- March).

Presbyterian Youth Connection (P.Y.C.): Presbyterian Youth Connection meets on Wednesday evenings from September to May in our Youth House, next to the church. They enjoy fun, Christian fellowship and learning. The Junior High class (grades 7-8) meets at 6 p.m. Senior High class (grades 9-12) meets at 7 p.m. Supper is provided for both groups from 7-7:30 p.m.

Special Services: Special services are held during the Easter and Christmas seasons including: Holy Week, Good Friday, Advent and Christmas Eve.

Choir Practice: Choir practice is held each Monday night at 7pm from August through May. There is no choir practice in June and July.

Great Banquet: The Great Banquet is a weekend-long retreat where participants examine their faith and relationship with God in a fun and inspiring atmosphere. Through worship and study, people of all faith levels learn more about the love of God at work in their lives.

Bring-A-Dish Fellowship Luncheons: Everyone is invited to bring a dish and enjoy a meal together each month on the third Sunday immediately following the Worship service.

Men’s Thursday Group: The men of the community come together for a meal and study each Thursday at noon. The meal is provided for a $4 donation.
